Walking the Path and Trusting the Journey
I am currently packing up our beloved home of 20 years and we are moving. As I am doing this I am noticing a pattern that is moving through my body. One that doesn’t feel right and I have been witnessing what happens because of it.
I want to share because honestly, this is walking the path blindly.
A couple months ago we drew the line in the sand and set our intentions to move to a new neighborhood. There were many factors: a change, better supporting school for sports and we wanted to downsize our yard.
Once we set this intention out there we got an offer for our house. We had an unknown … where were we going to move.
There was this one townhouse that we all fell in love with as a family. So I had been visualizing this place, or it had been calling to me because I could see myself in it. Making food in the kitchen, hanging out in the family room and helping my husband with his work. It was amazing how easily I could see ourselves in there.
So I made up my mind that this was it. The family agreeded and we were under contract with both places. Our old home and our hopefully new one.
The pattern that I am noticing is that I immediately start looking for a way out.
When deadlines aren't met by the buyers of our home ... when I read through the HOA handbook and realize how much freedom we'll be giving up ... my mind immediately says, No. This isn't going to work. I don't want this.
There are long conversations with my husband and our realtor. Then, once the emotions settle, I remember why we started this journey in the first place. We need this move. I knew that before the fear started speaking louder than trust.
Then my body settles.
I realize I became so worked up because I wanted to flee from the fear of making such a big change.
It wasn't really about the townhouse. It was about leaving behind twenty years of comfort, familiarity and the life we had built here.
As I've been watching this unfold, I've realized this isn't the first time I've responded this way.
Whenever life asks me to step into something new, something I truly want, there's a part of me that starts looking for reasons to stay where I am.
It doesn't matter that I made the decision with clarity. It doesn't matter that I know why I'm doing it. Fear has a way of making the familiar feel safer than the unknown.
I'm still unpacking this pattern.
Every time fear tells me to turn around, I'm becoming more curious about what it's trying to protect. Maybe it's trying to keep me safe. Maybe it's trying to keep me in what feels familiar.
Or maybe it's simply reminding me that I'm standing on the edge of something new.
Maybe trusting the journey isn't about never feeling afraid. Maybe it's about noticing fear without letting it choose the direction I take.
I'm also beginning to wonder what would happen if I didn't rush to solve it.
What if, instead of trying to make a decision from the middle of fear, I simply let my body settle first?
Maybe not every uncomfortable feeling is asking me to change direction. Maybe some feelings are simply asking to be felt. And a deeper question is starting to rise, Can I trust the journey?
It makes me wonder ... Have you ever noticed a pattern like this in yourself? One that appears whenever you're standing on the edge of something new?
Maybe the first step isn't fixing it. Maybe it's simply noticing that it's there.
I’d love to hear about it. Leave me a comment down below!
